We’re building an expansion!

North Area Meals on Wheels officially broke ground on August 7 for a major expansion of its North Syracuse facility. Since opening its current building in 2004, the organization has seen significant growth — increasing from 55,000 meals served annually to now supporting over 500 clients. The expansion will add 2,400 square feet to accommodate increased demand, including new office space, improved storage for meals, and enhanced parking for volunteers. A future second phase will focus on sustainability, with plans to install a solar field and move toward fully electric operations.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together volunteers, staff, supporters, and local leaders who praised the program’s vital role in the community. Assemblyman Al Stirpe and others shared stories about the impact of Meals on Wheels, while longtime client Peter Wong expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support he receives. The expansion is supported by a CREST grant, funding from the CNY Community Foundation, and ongoing community donations, with construction expected to be completed in six to eight months.
