In the early 1970s, North Area Meals on Wheels (NAMOW) began with just a few individuals preparing meals in their homes for four clients. As the community’s needs grew, so did our operation.
NAMOW has moved five times to accommodate an increasing number of clients. In 2004, the North Syracuse Lion’s Club generously donated part of their park on Church Street, where we established our current building. This space has allowed us to serve thousands of meals over the years. However, after reviewing our operations and forecasting future needs, we’ve determined that in order to continue meeting the demands of our growing client base, we must expand our current facility.
Today, we proudly serve over 300 clients with the help of 275+ volunteers who prepare and deliver meals Monday through Friday. The Board of Directors has thoroughly reviewed our operations and future projections, and we’ve developed a plan for a facility expansion. By utilizing the land behind our building, we plan to increase our square footage by 50%, which will enable us to serve even more people and deliver additional meals.
We are committed to enhancing our ability to fulfill our mission now and in the future.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates coming soon!
