We are always looking for volunteers! Whether you want to deliver, work in the kitchen, or just help out any way that you can, we would love to talk to you. Information About Our Program
- We prepare and deliver meals to the following areas: North Syracuse, Mattydale, Liverool, Cicero, Clay, Brewerton, Bridgeport and
Baldwinsville (for those who qualify). - We prepare approx. 400 meals per day (200 lunch and 200 hot meals).
- Our program begins at 7 am and runs until about 1 pm daily.
- Our volunteer drivers start around 10:45 and it typically takes about 1 hour to deliver meals on a route.
- Routes average 7-11 stops per day.
- Kitchen Volunteers start between 7 am and 8 am and typically volunteer until about 12 noon.
- Volunteer Bakers come in later morning and volunteer for approx. 3 hours.

North Area Meals on Wheels also invites volunteers to participate with numerous committees and events that we have throughout the year.

Is Meals on Wheels looking for new volunteers?
Yes, we always have a need for regular and occasional volunteers. CALL TODAY at 315-452-1402!
Can I volunteer on the weekends?
Currently, Meals on Wheels only has opportunities during the week (Monday – Friday)
How often do I have to volunteer?
You can volunteer for as many, or as few, days as you'd like. We also rely on substitute drivers and kitchen help while our regulars are unable.
What if I can’t make the time & date that I scheduled to volunteer?
Meals on Wheels understands that you’re a busy person, and things come up from time to time. You can call the driver coordinator at 425-1402 if you will need a sub.
Since many people depend on Meals on Wheels to provide them with nutrition each day, Meals on Wheels asks each volunteer to give as much notice as possible if you can’t make a time for which you’ve volunteered.
Can I just show up if I have some free time?
No. We like to get to know all of our volunteers. A considerable amount of planning goes in to preparing, packaging and delivering such a large quantity of meals each day. If you’d like to be apply to be a substitute driver (determined on a daily basis) please submit an individual application.
How big will my route be?
Meals on Wheels strives to have short, convenient delivery routes. Routes are neighborhood based, and generally are an average of 12 stops.
How long will my delivery route take?
Once you get to know a route, it gets easier and easier. Most routes are programmed now to be about an hour each day. Some are a little longer, some are a little shorter. The volunteer office will work with you to find a time commitment that works for you.
I don't feel safe driving in the winter, but my friend does. Can we work as a team?
Of course! You can share a route with your friend and still deliver meals.
What if it's winter and the roads are terrible. Will I still need to drive?
